PhD Degree in Chemistry Medicinal - About Minimum Qualification, Universities, And Admission 2025-26

About This Course

The PhD Program in Medicinal Chemistry and Drug Discovery equips students with the expertise to design and synthesize novel biologically active molecules while exploring their mechanisms of action through biochemical, biophysical, and pharmacological methods. The program offers research specializations in synthetic chemistry, biochemical/pharmacological studies, and biophysical medicinal chemistry. Doctoral research aligns closely with faculty-led projects, which currently span critical health areas such as substance use disorders and addiction, neuropathic pain, obesity and metabolic disorders, neuropsychiatric conditions (including psychosis, ADHD, depression, anxiety, and eating disorders), and neurodegenerative diseases.

Similarly, the PhD in Pharmaceutical Medicinal Chemistry at Shoolini University prepares students with strong foundational and advanced training in the scientific principles of medicinal chemistry, emphasizing drug discovery and development. The program focuses on the synthesis, characterization, and evaluation of bioactive compounds for pharmaceutical use. Through rigorous coursework, hands-on research, and practical laboratory training, students gain advanced skills in molecular design, structure–activity relationship (SAR) analysis, and drug optimization strategies.

Eligibility

The program is open to candidates who hold a Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) degree with a specialization in Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Analysis, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Pharmacognosy & Phytochemistry, or Pharm D.

Applicants must have:

At least 55% aggregate marks or an equivalent grade as prescribed by the UGC in their Master’s degree

(a 2-year/4-semester Master’s program completed after a 4-year Bachelor’s degree)

A degree equivalent to MPharm in Pharmaceutical Chemistry or Medicinal Chemistry is also acceptable.

Candidates must qualify LPUNEST followed by an Interview.

Relaxation Policy

A 5% relaxation in marks or its equivalent grade is permitted for candidates belonging to:

SC

ST

OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)

Differently-Abled (PwD)

Economically Weaker Section (EWS)

Other categories as approved by the Commission from time to time
