Eligibility

1. Academic Qualifications

2. Minimum Degree Requirements as per National Regulations

The following candidates are eligible to apply:

i) Master’s Degree Holders

Candidates who have completed:

  • A 1-year/2-semester Master’s programme after a 4-year/8-semester Bachelor’s programme, or
  • A 2-year/4-semester Master’s programme after a 3-year Bachelor’s programme, or
  • A qualification equivalent to a Master’s degree recognised by the relevant statutory body,
  • Or a Master’s degree from a foreign accredited institution recognised by an appropriate quality assurance agency.

Minimum Requirement:

➡️ 55% marks in aggregate or an equivalent grade.

Relaxation:

A 5% relaxation (down to 50%) is permitted for candidates belonging to the following categories, as per government/commission rules:

SC / ST / OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) / Differently-abled / Economically Weaker Section (EWS) / other eligible categories.

ii) Candidates Applying after a Four-Year Bachelor’s Degree

Candidates who have completed a 4-year/8-semester Bachelor’s degree may also apply directly for the PhD programme.

Minimum Requirement:

➡️ 75% marks in aggregate or an equivalent grade.

Relaxation:

A 5% relaxation is permitted for candidates from SC / ST / OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) / Differently-abled / EWS categories.

iii) MPhil Graduates

Candidates who have completed an MPhil degree with 55% marks or an equivalent grade may apply.

Relaxation:

A 5% relaxation is applicable for eligible reserved categories.

3. Reservation Policy

  • Reservation policies apply only to Maharashtra domicile candidates, who must submit valid supporting documents before the interview.
  • Candidates from outside Maharashtra will be considered under the Open (General) Category.

PhD Admission Process

1. Entrance Test Requirement

  • Eligible candidates will be invited to appear for the PhD Entrance Test conducted by MIT-WPU.
  • Exemption from the entrance test is granted to candidates who hold valid qualifications in:
  • UGC-NET, UGC-CSIR NET, GATE, CEED, GPAT, or other equivalent national-level examinations.

2. Entrance Test Structure and Qualifying Criteria

  • The entrance test is qualifying in nature.
  • Qualifying Marks:
  • General Category: 50%
  • SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/Differently Abled/EWS/Other eligible categories: 45%
  • Syllabus Composition:

3. Interview / Viva-Voce

  • Candidates who qualify the entrance test must appear for a university-conducted interview/viva-voce.
  • Selection Weightage:

10. Provision for Extension

  • An additional extension of up to 2 years may be granted through re-registration, but the total duration must not exceed 8 years.

11. Special Relaxation

  • Female candidates and persons with disabilities (≥40% disability) may receive an additional 2-year extension, permitting a maximum duration of 10 years.

12. Maternity/Child Care Leave

  • Female scholars are entitled to up to 240 days of Maternity/Child Care Leave during the entire PhD programme.
