1. Academic Qualifications
A. Master’s Degree Requirement
Candidates must have completed an M.Phil or equivalent Master's degree from a recognized state, private, deemed, or central university.
A minimum of 55% marks is required (or equivalent grade).
Candidates from reserved categories such as SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer)/Differently-Abled/EWS are eligible with 45%–50% marks, depending on institutional rules.
Students must not have any pending backlogs or compartments at the time of admission.
B. Qualifications Based on UGC Regulations
A Master’s degree or equivalent professional degree with at least 55% marks or Grade B on the UGC 7-point scale.
A 5% relaxation (from 55% to 50%) is allowed for SC/ST/OBC (NCL)/Differently-abled/EWS categories.
Relaxation applies only to qualifying marks, not including grace marks.
C. Eligibility Through M.Phil
Students who completed M.Phil coursework with at least 55% marks (or equivalent grade) and successfully completed the M.Phil degree may continue research directly in an integrated PhD programme.
Candidates whose M.Phil dissertation has been evaluated but viva is pending may be admitted provisionally, but admission will be cancelled if they fail to submit final grade cards within one month or fail the M.Phil requirements.
D. International Qualifications
Candidates with degrees from foreign universities must have credentials accredited by an authorized and internationally recognized accreditation agency.
Foreign students must submit an equivalence certificate (for example, as required by REVA University).

with minimum 55% marks or 5.5 CGPA (10-scale).
Candidates with a 4-year Bachelor's degree alone may apply if they have 75% marks or 7.5 CGPA (with 5% relaxation for reserved categories).
B. Eligibility for BITS and Similar Institutions
M.E., M.Pharm., MBA, or M.Phil from BITS or equivalent with minimum 60% aggregate.
Candidates with M.Sc., B.E., or equivalent with at least 60% marks may be considered for provisional admission.
For PhD in Languages and Humanities, candidates with M.A./M.Phil and 55% marks may apply (coursework up to two semesters required).
C. Candidates with High Professional Standing
Exceptional candidates with significant professional experience and proven expertise may be considered, even without traditional qualifications.
They may be required to complete prescribed coursework depending on the DRC (Departmental Research Committee) guidelines.

PhD in Computer Science - Admission Process
Most universities and colleges admit students to their PhD programmes based on scores from national-level Common Entrance Tests (CET) such as UGC NET, or through institution-specific entrance examinations like those conducted by JNU. Therefore, students must submit separate applications for these entrance exams as required by the respective institution.
